Stash Management Part 2

Last week, in part 1 of Stash Management, we looked at whether you indeed actually had a problem that needed fixing!

I’ll assume that you do (or that you’re just plain interested in the next step!)

Stash Management 4 part series - part 2

Today, in part 2 of Stash Management, we are looking at goals. As they say, If you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know when you get there!

So today, you are going to set some goals for your stash management plan. This way, at the end, you’ll know it’s the end! And you’ll be able to see how successful you were (and celebrate!)

Everyone will have different goals for managing their stash – here are just a few you might relate to:

  • To have a tidy sewing space with a place for everything, and everything in its place.
  • To feel happy and peaceful when I walk into my sewing room, instead of overwhelmed and stressed.
  • To only keep fabric that I love and/or have a purpose for.
  • To have all future projects (pattern and supplies) organised and in bags or bins
  • To make a bit of extra cash by selling the fabric I no longer need/like, and letting it be a blessing to someone else.
  • To be realistic about how many projects I can make in my lifetime.
  • To not hoard fabric (stockpile for future use) but to use it to make things to bring myself or others joy.
  • To be a blessing to others by donating some of the fabric I no longer need/like.

I’m sure there are many more, but these will get you thinking about your goals for your stash, and help with the next step of managing your stash.

Now, let’s talk about time goals. You know what you aiming for, but how long will this take??

If you have a small stash, you could set a time goal of having it all sorted in one month, or even one weekend!

If your stash is large and very overwhelming, it would be better to set a goal of how often you will work on it, and for how long. Perhaps one morning a week until it’s done. Otherwise, if you set a finish goal of one month, and it isn’t finished, you will get discouraged and throw in the towel. And we don’t want that!! We want your stash managed and under control so that your stash can bring you joy, not stress.

How are you going with managing your stash? Have you started? Are finding these posts helpful?

Next week we get our hands dirty, and actually start to handle our stash and make some big/hard decisions!

Till next time,
